What are your thoughts on Life outside the universe?

I am attempting to start a large group discussion about life outside the planet Earth. In my view, it seems pretty apparent with all the planets in the habitable life zones around the millions of suns, that there is life outside of our knowledge. The problem being is that life in the same stage as us humans? Are they long gone or just in the earliest stages of evolution. It is very unlikely with the vastness of space that we will be able to contact lifeforms and actually communicate.

What are all of your thoughts? Should we be attempting to contact life? Stephen Hawking thinks this may be a very dangerous practice as he is worried the lifeforms able to reach us could see us as the Europeans saw the Native Americans. He may very well be right unfortunately. Please comment!

  1. Yes, it'd probably be stupid to do so; what if they are an advanced race? World domination? What if there's some sort of disease? Extinction? :D

  2. while I'm a big fan of science fiction (and fantasy) and I am for keeping an open mind, I don't think there is life anywhere else outside of earth, for the simple reason that we have no evidence of it.

  3. I think if they are advanced enough to get to us their nanotech and robotics would be advanced enough to get whatever they need from uninhabited planets. Their interest in us would be academic.

  4. It is very important to note human history. When has an significantly advanced civilization that has had no fear of others rallying against them peacefully merged with another civilization? It doesn't happen as much now due to diplomacy and worldwide agreements however back in the old days, nothing stood in the way of a superior country. I believe it may be the same if we were to be visited but it could go either way. We could learn so much from each other. I think it is worth the risk.

  5. well i think that outside our galaxy there are intelligent life but the universe is so big that is impossible to have the luck to find them or to they find us :) enjoy :D

  6. …or it could be the reverse. Once more we would see primitiveness that could just as easily be exploited as happened first by the Europeans sharing the “new world” or later the colonial powers in dividing up Africa. There will undoubtedly be a different evolutionary cycle where that primitiveness could be as much suppressed by us, supposedly cultivated civilisation. Time may be made up of different dimensions or even more multi dimensional space where time makes up a small factor in their life and well beyond the world we know.

Another angle is that we may find a degenerating life form where everything goes backwards. To them, will be a natural world!!
